Pupil Premium & Catch Up
The Government has established the Pupil Premium, which provides additional school funding, in order to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. It is paid to schools according to the number of pupils who have been registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years, or has been in care for 6 months or longer and for children of service personnel.
It is for the school to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent each year, and we will be held accountable for how we have used the additional funding to support pupils who qualify for the Pupil Premium. In addition, new measures are included in the performance tables that will capture the achievement of the pupils covered by the Pupil Premium.
At The Charter School Bermondsey we support the thinking behind the Pupil Premium and believe that this funding enables those students directly benefited to achieve the vision for the school. The allocation of funding therefore is in line with our vision and values. We believe in quality first teaching in the classroom as the main tool for raising achievement for all students, and that the Pupil Premium funding ensures that all students have equal access to develop and realise their potential.
Initiatives will be monitored, evaluated and added as the academic year progresses. The impact of these interventions will be reviewed regularly, and reported on at the end of the academic year. This information can then be used to guide us in our spending for future years.
The Charter School Bermondsey has set a target of ensuring that the attainment and progress of Pupil Premium students is in line with their peers and national averages.
The allocation of Pupil Premium funding is £253,575k for the academic Year 2023-24. The Pupil Premium strategy is reviewed annually in October. Our next review will be in October 2024.
