Attendance

Being here matters. Every day in school is a day of progress. A conversation in tutor time. A lesson that builds on the last. A friendship that deepens. At Charter Bermondsey, we ask every student to aim for 97% attendance or above, and we work hard to make that possible.

Attendance is about more than being in the building. It is about belonging to a community that believes in you. About building the confidence, the knowledge, and the relationships that help you become who you are meant to be. We are with your child every step of the way.

Our approach

Why attendance matters

97% attendance means missing fewer than eight days in a year. Below that, gaps start to appear. We monitor attendance closely so we can step in early, not late.

Recognising commitment

We celebrate students who show up, day in, day out. Rewards are regular, specific, and meaningful:

  • Half-term postcards for 100% attendance
  • Recognition cards for 97% and above
  • Weekly rewards for excellent attendance and genuine improvement
  • Special celebrations and trips, including our 15 Days of Christmas programme

Good habits deserve recognition. We make sure they get it.

What we ask

  • Students should be on site by 8:35am
  • Free breakfast is available in the canteen from 8:15am
  • Lateness and absence are followed up promptly, because early contact means early support
  • We monitor persistent absence carefully so no child falls behind

We're here to help

Life gets in the way sometimes. When it does, we act early.

Education Welfare

Our Education Welfare Officer works directly with families where attendance needs support. No judgement. Practical help, real solutions, and a genuine partnership to remove whatever is getting in the way.

Pastoral Support

Our pastoral teams, including Heads of Year and specialist support staff, are alongside your child every day. They know them. They notice when something is wrong, and they act on it.
