If your child attended a Southwark primary school, they'll have received free meals throughout their primary career — and many students remain eligible at secondary level. It's worth checking, as Free School Meals can save families over £400 a year. Support is applied discreetly: a daily credit is added to your child's digital account, covering the cost of a hot or cold meal. You can also top up the account at any time if you'd like to give them additional choice.
Qualifying benefits
Your child may be eligible if you or your partner receive any of the following:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (where you're not also entitled to Working Tax Credit, and gross annual income is no more than £16,190)
- Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying)
- Universal Credit (with a household income of less than £7,400 per year after tax, not including benefits)
How to apply
