Charter School Bermondsey is celebrating a record set of GCSE results, with students achieving some of the strongest outcomes in the school's history.
This year, 65% of students achieved a grade 4 or above in both English and Mathematics, while 44% secured a grade 5 or above in both subjects. This is an increase of over a third on previous years.
Furthermore, an impressive 60% of students achieved a grade 5 or higher in English.
Principal Marcus Huntley praised the achievements of students and staff:
"These results reflect a genuine team effort. Our staff have gone above and beyond to support our students and their families, and today's celebrations are thoroughly deserved.
"The success of our students is a testament to their hard work, determination and commitment. It also reflects our unwavering focus on ensuring every student feels they belong in our school community, believes in their potential and is supported to become their very best self.
"I am incredibly proud of what this cohort has achieved and excited to see them take their next steps with confidence."
Among the many outstanding individual performances were Head Girl Emily Ngo, who achieved seven Grade 8s, and Head Boy Vinicius Bueno, who achieved five Grade 9s, four Grade 8s and a Distinction*. Another exceptional performance came from Louis-Pierre De La Kethulle, who secured six grades at 8 and 9.
Vini - ‘I am over the moon with my results. My time at Charter has been amazing and the support I’ve received has massively contributed to my success. My sister will be coming here next year and she'll be great.’
Louis-Pierre - ‘I’m happy that I got what I needed...especially my two grade 9s in Science. I’m so grateful for my teachers and my friends who supported me.’
Students were also recognised for the exceptional progress they made throughout their time at Charter Bermondsey. Aaminah Abiola celebrated achieving passes in all of her subjects, including a Grade 8 in English, while aspiring politician Jack Hilmi earned an impressive set of Grade 6s across his GCSEs.
Students from Charter Bermondsey, which is part of the Charter Schools Educational Trust, will now progress to a wide range of high-quality post-16 destinations, including leading sixth form colleges, independent schools, further education colleges and apprenticeship programmes.
The excellent results come shortly after the school heard that former Head Girl Greta Pezzalato secured her place at Jesus College, Oxford, where she will study History.
Mr Huntley added: "While we are delighted to celebrate our highest achievers, today is about every student. Behind every grade is a young person with their own story, who has worked hard and overcome challenges to reach this point.
"Whatever path they choose next, they will always remain valued members of the Charter Bermondsey community. We could not be prouder of all they have achieved."
