Learning French opens doors to global cultures, helping students belong to an inclusive classroom where taking linguistic risks is welcomed with kindness. As Brené Brown notes, "True belonging only happens when we present our authentic, imperfect selves". We nurture the belief that speaking another language opens hearts—recalling Nelson Mandela's insight that speaking to someone in their language "goes to their heart". With integrity and curiosity, students adopt a scholarly routine of vocabulary mastery and grammar application. By exploring French-speaking cultures with high aspirations, students become fluent, open-minded linguists possessing "a second soul".
Key Stage 3
Taught in 2 x 55-minute lessons per week, our KS3 students focus on listening, speaking, reading, and writing. They are encouraged to speak with confidence and spontaneity, and to read and respond to a variety of texts in French.
Key Stage 4
With 3 x 55-minute lessons per week, KS4 students follow the AQA GCSE specification, developing their ability to communicate confidently with native speakers. They engage with authentic spoken and written material, deepening their understanding of the cultures where French is spoken. Enrichment opportunities, including trips and visits, help bring the language to life.
