Curriculum Intent

We provide students with the opportunity to explore and connect with cultures around the world through the study of French. Our curriculum inspires curiosity and enthusiasm for global communities, emphasising the importance of understanding diverse cultures in an increasingly multicultural society. By learning French, students gain valuable skills that not only support their success in a competitive job market but also equip them to thrive in a globalised world.

Our curriculum focuses on the transferable skills needed across various subjects, with an emphasis on knowledge recall and vocabulary development. Students engage in a wide range of speaking and listening activities, building their confidence to communicate effectively in different settings. We aim to develop globally-minded students who can apply their language skills beyond GCSE, with opportunities to pursue further study at A Level and beyond.

Key Stage 3

Taught in 2 x 55-minute lessons per week, our KS3 students focus on listening, speaking, reading, and writing. They are encouraged to speak with confidence and spontaneity, and to read and respond to a variety of texts in French.

Key Stage 4

With 3 x 55-minute lessons per week, KS4 students follow the AQA GCSE specification, developing their ability to communicate confidently with native speakers. They engage with authentic spoken and written material, deepening their understanding of the cultures where French is spoken. Enrichment opportunities, including trips and visits, help bring the language to life.
