Our Curriculum

PE

Engaging students in diverse physical activities fosters a healthy lifestyle. Through teamwork and self-discipline, we empower them to grow both physically and mentally.

Curriculum Intent

Our PE curriculum revolves around three key principles: coaching, practicing, and performing. Through these principles, we nurture the whole child and equip them with skills that extend beyond the PE classroom. This curriculum serves as a tool to teach values such as self-discipline, compassion, creativity, problem-solving, and resilience, while helping students understand the connection between positive physical and mental health.

Key Stage 3

Taught through 2 x 55-minute periods each week

Students engage in a wide variety of individual and team physical activities, gaining a comprehensive understanding of coaching, practice, and performance. They develop the technical vocabulary necessary to discuss and reflect on these areas, encouraging critical thinking about their own progress.

Key Stage 4

  • GCSE Option Group
  • Taught through 3 x 55-minute periods in Year 10 and 2 in Year 11

Students who choose Physical Education as an option follow the Cambridge National Sports Studies specification. This program helps them grasp the fundamental principles and concepts of sports studies, fostering confidence and independence in skills relevant to exercise, physical activity, and health. Students explore contemporary issues in sport, including participation rates and ethics, while also developing their abilities as performers in two chosen sports.

  • Core PE
  • Taught through 2 x 55-minute periods each week (1 in Year 11)

All students in the core PE pathway begin to specialize, deepening their knowledge and understanding of sports. They have opportunities to develop reflective skills needed to enhance their coaching, practice, and performance abilities.“When you fail, you learn a lot about yourself and come back stronger. Life need not have limits. Having an opportunity in life is important, but what defines you is what you do with that opportunity.”
