Curriculum Intent

Studying Spanish opens up valuable opportunities for students to engage with diverse cultures worldwide. Our curriculum fosters enthusiasm and curiosity, emphasising the importance of cultural understanding in today’s multicultural society. By learning Spanish, students gain essential skills that enhance their competitiveness in the job market and prepare them for success in a globalised environment.

We focus on transferable skills vital for success across subjects, with a strong emphasis on knowledge recall and vocabulary development. Students engage in a variety of speaking and listening activities, empowering them to communicate confidently in different contexts. We strive to nurture positive global citizens who are equipped to tackle challenges and continue their language journey beyond GCSE, including A Level study and beyond.

Key Stage 3

Taught in 2 x 55-minute lessons per week, our KS3 curriculum helps students develop their understanding and ability to respond to spoken and written language. They will speak Spanish with confidence and fluency, write for different purposes, and enhance their reading skills in the language.

Key Stage 4

In KS4, students have 3 x 55-minute lessons each week, following the AQA GCSE specification. They will communicate confidently and coherently with native speakers, engage with authentic materials, and deepen their understanding of the cultures where Spanish is spoken. Enrichment opportunities, including trips and visits, will further enrich their learning experience.
